In September of 2014 Yves Saint Laurent launched Black Opium, the new fragrance announced as a rock n roll interpretation of the classic that should highlight the dark, mysterious side of the YSL brand. Master perfumers Nathalie Lorson and Marie Salamagne, in collaboration with Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc, developed the composition. Notes of coffee, present in large quantities, dominate the scent. Additional accords are pink pepper, orange blossom, jasmine, vanilla, patchouli and cedar.

Definitely not gournand

With so many positive comments, I couldn't resist trying Black opium out for myself. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. This scent, unlike what others have said, lacks any delicious or extravagant notes. In fact, it reminds me of the popular fragrance Red Door. I wouldn't recommend bothering with this one. I pride myself on being able to judge perfumes accurately, and in my opinion, Black opium falls short of being truly remarkable or unique. Save yourself the trouble and pass on this one. Trust me, I know my perfumes.

I like it but

I'm not sure it's something I'm super interested in. I'm a huge bianco latte fan and this is just okay in my opinion.

Smells cheap

I had high hopes from the reviews, but I just can’t like it. For me, the smell it muddled. I don’t know what direction it’s taking me in. I’m instantly reminded of a cheap perfume you can get at Claire’s. The next day I can get a more defined smell but it’s still just meh.

Sexiest perfume ever

I love, love Black Opium. It is darkly ****, spicy, with floral tones. It is my evening perfume, Opium is for everyday. My husband is a huge fan as well.
